Inspiration

The wood duck is undoubtedly the most beautiful waterfowl nesting in Canada. As with most ducks, the male plays no role in rearing his offspring. Monique's painting presents two single males in their breeding plumage, just before the summer moult. The marsh calla serves as a floral element to link the birds to their natural environment. Monique Blaquière-Benoit observed this magnificent bird at Lac Saint-Pierre, before rendering it on canvas in her studio in Haute-Gaspésie, Québec.
