The Northern saw-whet owl is Gisèle Benoit's favourite owl, who has observed it in various locations in Québec and Ontario. During the day, the bird often rests among the conifers, the setting chosen by the artist to pay tribute to it. Notice the lichens on the trunks and branches, as well as the perfect camouflage of this cute owl with piercing eyes! The vertical composition creates the impression of being close to the forest. Did you know that the link between Gisèle and this work goes beyond that of art or a simple wildlife observation anecdote? The text of the History section will tell you more about it.

Original painting available

The title of this work with a particular destiny refers to an uncle of the artist, a great nature lover who planted thousands of trees on his land, in Beauce. When André saw the Northern saw-whet owl his niece painted after an observation stay on his domain, he immediately reserved it. Sadly, the man passed away before he could admire it at home. Gisèle has decided to keep the painting in her personal collection in memory of her beloved uncle. It is an oil on canvas of 20'' x 8'' (51 cm x 20 cm).

Fine art prints to spread the beauties of art and nature

Each year, Monique and Gisèle allow the reproduction of a limited number of original paintings. They do this essentially to make the products derived from their art accessible to all budgets, and above all, to finance the educational projects of the Society of Art and Science for Nature (SAS Nature), the non-profit organization of which they are co-founders.
