The Wood Duck is certainly the most beautiful palmiped nesting in Canada. As with most ducks, males play no role in rearing their offspring. Monique’s painting shows two single males in their nuptial plumage, just before the summer moulting. The Water Arum serves as a floral element to link birds to their natural environment. Monique Blaquière-Benoit observed this magnificent bird at Lake Saint-Pierre, then, she painted it on canvas in her studio in Gaspésie, Québec.
