This majestic moose comes straight from the kingdom of auroral mists and the memories that inhabited Monique when she painted it. Moose like open spaces where the young hardwoods on which they feed grow in abundance. Whether in Québec or Ontario, the artist has long observed them in environments transformed by a forest fire or by the action of man. In this scene, the small ditch marks the border between a mature forest and a recent logging area. The backlight effect gives a poetic cachet to the painting, making the coming of the king of our forests almost supernatural.
