THE WOLVES’ TERRITORY

The border mentioned in the title of this painting is the river. In Northern Ontario, Gisèle observed that the territory of a pack reaches or exceeds 600 km2. Often, a large river, lake or forest road defines the domains of neighbouring packs. The wolf in the foreground is not part of the pack on the other side of the river. During the ice breakup, which occurs in April, this border becomes difficult to cross and the wolves are content to mutually monitor each other.
