ARTISTIC TRIBUTE TO AN ENDANGERED SPECIES

The woodland caribou of Charlevoix, which inspired this moving work to Monique, are a hair's breadth from disappearing, for the second time in history. Indeed, the Quebec government captured and confined in enclosures the survivors of individuals reintroduced in the 1960s, a last resort solution stemming from the authorities' real lack of will to protect the species' territory, which is devastated by forestry cuts for decades. The artist had the chance to observe caribou in their natural habitat before they were confined. Her painting is a historical testimony tinged with nostalgia, harmony and hope.
